If you have a desk job, watch out, you could be putting your health at risk. You may feel awkward doing stretching exercises at your desk. But right now, as you sit there at your computer, you are doing one of the worst things you can do to your body -- you’re sitting still. And not only that, but the way you sit -- and type, and hold the phone -- may be wreaking havoc on your bones, joints, and muscles. Doctors say people who sit at their computers for hours every day -- are in for serious medical problems. They see things like carpal tunnel, neck and back pain, weight gain, and even tennis elbow. The solution, experts say, is to break up your work by doing stretching exercises at your desk. And if possible, get up and walk around, even if it’s to get a drink of water.
If you’re concerned about your heart health, St. John’s can help with a heart check-up. We offer our cardiovascular risk assessment for just $99 at several locations in the four states. It provides five tests for your heart, and an evaluation with one of our nurse practioners. Our next session is set for this Friday, April 13th. For more information or to register, call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
