Dieting is not advised for children, but parents can help children set good habits that will help keep them fit. Try eating meals together as a family with a variety of healthy foods on the table. Don’t force kids to participate in organized sports, but encourage physical activity like riding bikes, hoops, or even an old game of tag. Encourage them to reach for water first when they’re thirsty. Even fruit juices add extra calories. And remember to pay attention to your child’s weight as he or she grows and talk to your pediatrician if you suspect a weight problem.
Are you in need of a heart check-up? St. John’s can help with our traveling CV risk assessment program. We offer our cardiovascular risk assessment test for just $99 at several locations in the four states. It provides five tests for your heart, and an evaluation with one of our nurse practitioners. Our next session is set for this Friday, April 27th. For more information or to register, call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
