It’s a so called rite of passage for women….and it’s a big thing called menopause. One of the most common signs you’ve got it, the ever present hot flashes. For decades, most women banked on hormone replacement therapy for help. Unfortunately, the infamous Women's study of 2002 cast a huge shadow on this form of treatment. So here are some things you can try to cool down. #1 – watch what you’re wearing. Fabrics to avoid include nylon, spandex, and some close-knit polyesters, all of which can hold in body heat and make it harder for you to cool down. Don’t forget to exercise. Use cool water to cool down. And don’t forget to stop and small the roses, literally. Doctors say certain smells can help, including roses, lavendar, vanilla and lemongrass.
If you’ve heard your doctor say you have a “Carotid Artery Blockage”, here’s a health talk you don’t want to miss. St. John’s will feature a special session on the subject next tomorrow, April 10th at 5:30 pm at our Health Connection location inside Northpark Mall. The talk will be presented by Kristen Robertson. Registration is required, so call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
