Home Health : Heel Pain

According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, every mile you walk puts 60 tons of stress on each foot. While your feet can actually withstand very heavy loads and use, you can develop pain from repetitive stress. A sore heel usually doesn’t require surgery and heals on its own with rest. Plantar fasciitis is a type of heel pain that can be caused from doing too much running or jumping. These can cause inflammation of the tissue band connecting the heel bone to the base of the toes. Usually it can be treated with special exercises, medication to reduce swelling, or by using heel pads in your shoes. If plantar fasciitis goes untreated, you may develop heel spurs. That’s why you should see your doctor if the problem doesn’t get better. For more information call St. John’s Referral One at 625.2000 or visit stj.com.
