There's nothing new about taking in fewer calories to lose weight. What is new in fighting the battle of the bulge is a diet weapon that reduces calorie intake by managing hunger. If you've ever wondered why you fill up on a bowl of oatmeal but can eat three doughnuts before feeling satisfied, the reason is the satiety levels of these foods. For instance, white bread sits at a level of 100. Oatmeal has a higher level at over 200, but those delicious doughnuts only rank around 60. And the higher the number, the better.
We all remember being told to “drink your milk”. Well, your mom was right and you should be saying it more often to your kids. Researchers say that most American children over age 8 don’t get enough calcium, a deficiency that increases their risks for developing osteoporosis in adulthood. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children eat three servings of milk, flavored milk, cheese or yogurt a day. It’s been proven that dairy products help build strong bones and reduce the risk of fractures and osteoporosis later in life.
