Heart Health : American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month. According to the American Heart Association, more than 80 million American adults, which is one in three, have one or more types of cardiovascular disease, or CVD. Of that number, more than 38 million are estimated to be age 60 or older. Nearly 2400 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day, which is an average of one death every 37 seconds. CVD claims the lives of about as many diabetes mellitus combined. This month, during American Heart Month, take time to learn your risk of developing heart disease and ways to manage those risks. Getting regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, controlling diabetes and smoking cessation are all ways you can be proactive in improving your cardiovascular health.
