Diet : Chocolate & Blood Pressure

There are hardly any problems chocolate can’t solve. Chocolate is known to contain antioxidants and minerals like calcium, potassium and magnesium that can benefit our health. Studies show chocolate reduces blood clots and increases blood flow in the arteries. It may even boost your mood by increasing serotonin and endorphin levels in the brain. Another problem that chocolate may solve is high blood pressure. In one small study, adults who ate about three and a half ounces of dark chocolate daily for 15 days lowered their high blood pressure. They also saw their total cholesterol levels drop, including bad cholesterol. Of course, the fat and calories in chocolate mean it’s still best to enjoy it sparingly. St. John’s offers free blood pressure screenings every Monday.
