Heart Health : Heart Failure Clinic
The term “heart failure” can cause some confusion because it doesn’t mean the heart “fails” or stops beating. Instead, heart failure, sometimes called congestive heart failure, means the weakening of the heart prevents it from being able to pump enough blood and oxygen to other parts of the body. Symptoms of heart failure include shortness of breath during daily activities, trouble breathing when lying down, weight gain or swelling in the legs, ankles or lower back or general fatigue and weakness. According to the CDC, nearly 5.8 million people in the United States have heart failure, and the most common causes are CAD, diabetes and high blood pressure. St. John’s Heart Failure Clinic helps heart failure patients maintain their health and reduce the chance of a hospital stay.
