St. John's Health MinuteThe next time you sit down to eat, think about this. What you eat, can protect your heart. For example, the more colorful the vegetable, the more heart-protective antioxidants contained within. Red wine and dark beer contain more protective antioxidants or flavonoids than other alcoholic beverages. You can get maximum heart protection with up to two glasses of wine a day, a 12 ounce bottle of beer, or 2 shots of spirits. And eating one meal a day slows down the rate at which we burn calories. That is especially important to keep in mind as we age, because our metabolic requirements are reduced by an average of 5 calories daily.

This year’s Joplin Business Expo begins today and that’s where you’ll find St. John’s. Our team will be out there offering free blood pressure and body fat screenings along with mammograms for the working woman at our Mobile Mammography unit. We are bringing the doctor to you as well, so make sure you stop by St. John’s booths at John Q. Hammons Convention Center today and tomorrow. And for more information about future health screenings, call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
