St. John's Health MinuteIf you feel sluggishness during the day, there may be a reason besides lack of sleep. It could be because of abnormally high blood pressure during sleep the night before. Researchers believe an absence of the normal nighttime dip in blood pressure may bring about what is considered a cognitive slowdown. If left unmonitored and uncontrolled, you could raise your risk for stroke, heart attack, heart failure and/or kidney failure.

There's sobering news for so called "light" smokers. A new study finds that smoking just one to four cigarettes per day nearly triples risks for dying of heart disease or lung cancer. Men who were light smokers were nearly three times as likely to die of lung cancer, while women who were light smokers were nearly five times as likely to be killed by lung cancer, compared with non-smokers. If you want to quit smoking, but need a little help, St. John's pulmonary rehab has what you need. For more info, call St. John's Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
