Surprise, surprise, doctors now say drinking coffee and other caffeinated beverages won't do you any good in your efforts to lose weight and keep it off. Caffeine acts as a diuretic, causing the body to retain less water temporarily. But there's nothing to suggest that these effects are permanent, and the stimulant does nothing to reduce body fat. The best way to lose a few pounds and maintain a healthy weight is to get enough exercise and eat a proper diet.
Jumping on that treadmill or bike is not only good for one's health, but also can help significantly reduce depression. A new study showed that depressive symptoms were reduced almost 50 percent in individuals who participated in 30-minute aerobic exercise sessions three to five times a week.
If you are suffering from depression, talk to your doctor. There are options out there and it’s an important part of your overall health. For more info on St. John’s programs or to find a doctor that’s right for you, call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
