Home Health : Canker Sores

Sores in your mouth can make your life miserable for the time you have them. If the sore you have is a canker sore, it should disappear within seven to 10 days. But, what are you supposed to do in the mean time until it goes away? To ease the pain of a canker sore, try an over-the-counter canker-sore ointment or mouth rinse. Try to limit or avoid crunchy, hot, salty, and spicy foods. If a sore lasts longer than two weeks, talk to your doctor or dentist. You may wonder if there’s a way to prevent canker sores. Its hard to say. Some people are prone to sores because of their genes. But you may be able to reduce your risk by avoiding certain foods, such as tomatoes, strawberries, cheese, and chocolate. And try to put a lid on stress, which may trigger sores. For more information, call 625.2000 or visit stj.com.
