Diet : Holiday Cookout
With the holiday coming up, many people are planning backyard barbecues. But, for anyone dieting, the food choices can be a dieter’s nightmare. Fat-laden side dishes, high-calorie desserts and creamy salads can be a recipe for disaster for the old waistline. There may be ways to keep from sabotaging your diet at your next cookout. Buy 95 percent lean hamburger and limit patties to a quarter pound or less, or even try low-fat turkey burgers. Barbecue skinless chicken. Serve raw veggies with low-fat dip such as hummus or yogurt. Grill veggies and choose baked beans instead of fatty salads. Remember drinks can be calorie carriers, so make some unsweetened tea or for soda drinkers, offer calorie-free diet drinks.
