Home Health : Holiday Safety

The Fourth of July can bring out the kid in most of us. Between cookouts, swimming and fireworks, there are plenty of things to do to keep busy over the holiday weekend. St. John’s wants to help keep you healthy this Fourth of July. If you’re going to be outside, be sure to stay hydrated to avoid heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Drink beverages like sports drinks with electrolytes and avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks. If you’re outdoors for very long, be sure you keep the sunscreen handy. Use at least 15 SPF and reapply after sweating or swimming. Handle all fireworks appropriately and make sure children are always supervised. Many injuries can be avoided simply by following package directions. In case of injury, be sure to seek medical attention. Above all, have fun! St. John’s wishes everyone a happy Independence Day!
