Home Health : ER Visit Expectations

This time of the year unfortunately can mean increased trips to the Emergency Room. But, some people don’t know what to expect when they come to the ER. The first thing to remember is, the ER is not set up on a first-come-first-serve system. When you first arrive, a nurse will ask you about your symptoms, and you will be seen in order of the severity of your illness. Also, keep in mind you’ll probably be asked several times to describe your symptoms. This is because you will see several people during your visit, including a triage nurse at check-in, a nurse in your exam room, and then a physician. They will all visit with you about how you’re feeling. Most importantly, remember that if your condition worsens while you wait, you should alert someone immediately.
