Home Health : Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome has increased significantly in the United States since 1980, according to a Mayo Clinic study. If you experience numbness, tingling and pain in the hand, you may be given a 10 item questionnaire to help screen for carpal tunnel syndrome.
Three questions found to work particularly well at predicting carpal tunnel are:
- Do you have symptoms in at least two of your first four fingers?
- Are the symptoms worse at night or when you first wake up in the morning?
- Do you get some relief by shaking your hand?
Of patients answering yes to at least two of these three questions, 97 percent show abnormalities indicative of carpal tunnel on electrodiagnostic tests. If you have similar issues and think you might have carpal tunnel syndrome, you should call your doctor to find out for sure. For more information call Referral One at 625.2000 or visit to stj.com.
