Exercise : Improving Your Balance
Most Americans are well aware of the need for exercise, but don’t realize that balance training is just as important. Test your balance each day with these easy steps. Standing with both feet on the ground, close your eyes and pay attention to your body. As you move your feet closer together, the harder it will be to balance. With your eyes open, stand on one leg for as long as you can. Try for 30 seconds and work your way up. You’ll notice tightness in your legs and feet, indicating that you’re gaining strength as well as balance. Good core muscle exercises are yoga, pilates and dance. So are sit-ups, crunches and push-ups. Keep your leg muscles strong by running, walking, biking or climbing stairs. You can also try squats and lunges. Be sure to talk to your doctor before starting a new exercise program.
