There’s no hiding it, most Americans are overweight. Doctors blame America's obesity epidemic on two things: too much food and too little exercise. But now some researchers are adding a few more excuses to the list. For starters, try sleep debt. That’s right, getting too little sleep can increase body weight. How about pollution? They say hormones control body weight. And many of today's pollutants affect our hormones. Even air-conditioning is to blame. You have to burn calories if your environment is too hot or too cold for comfort. But more people live and work in temperature-controlled homes and offices. And here’s the kicker. You may be obese because of the person you married. They say obese women tend to marry obese men and produce obese children, creating a circle of life that’s unhealthy.
