So we’re trained to think that a salad is good for us. But here’s a shocker. There's nothing so-called healthy about 490 calories and 41 grams of fat in a Subway BMT salad with ranch dressing. That adds up to even more calories and fat than a Burger King Bacon Cheeseburger. And at Ruby Tuesday, the Carolina Chicken Salad packs — brace yourself — 1,300 calories and 72 grams of fat. The culprit may not be in your salad greens, but all the extras loaded on top, including the dressing. So the rule of thumb, when it comes to ordering a salad….stick to the basics and watch the fat.
There’s no question, Americans are fat and it‘s time to do something about it. If you want to learn more, mark this on your calendar. St. John’s will be holding a health talk to discuss obesity on Tuesday, July 10th at 5:30 p.m. The talk will be held at our Health Connection location inside Northpark Mall. Registration is required, so call St. John`s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
