Home Health : Bee & Wasp Stings
Are you allergic to bees or wasps? If the answer is no, don’t be so sure. Many people don’t realize they are allergic until they are stung. What’s more is that you can be stung once with no reaction, but be stung later only to have a reaction. The reaction may range from a mild one at the site of the sting to a serious and possibly life threatening reaction where your airways become swollen. If you are allergic to bee and wasp stings, you may carry an epinephrine shot (sometimes referred to as an epi pen) with you. A common misconception is that if you have an epi pen, you can administer the shot and be good to go. Not the case. The dose of epinephrine is only enough to get you enough time to seek medical care.
