Heart Health : High Resting Heart Rate
What’s your resting heart rate, your pulse when you’re not moving? If you don’t know, it’s relatively easy to figure out. Find your pulse on your wrist, then count the beats for ten seconds and multiply that number by six. According to the American Heart Association, a normal resting heart rate is between 60 and 80 beats pre minute. It’s typically lower in people who are fit. One study found that a high resting heart rate can mean an increased risk for heart attack, not just for men ,but women, too. Researchers reported that a higher resting heart rate in women accounted for about a 25 percent higher risk for heart attack. To find out your risk for heart disease, St. John’s Health Connection offers Heart Aware, a free online risk assessment tool.
