Diet : Apples to Pears

Are you an apple or a pear? Your body-type, that is? Apples carry weight around their stomachs and above and pears carry weight on their hips and thighs. People who are apple-shaped and carry excess abdominal fat have an increased risk for heart disease. What’s more is that abdominal fat has been linked to urinary tract problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and stroke. Even if you appear slim or have normal weight, a large waist to hip ratio can strain your heart. Older adults who are apple-shaped have more lung problems and high blood pressure. Fat cells in the upper body have different qualities than those in the lower body. Pear shaped people have lower risks for most diseases, but can be more prone to varicose veins and muscle and joint problems.
