There's something in the air, and it's not just pollen. Spring break, spring vacation, spring weddings -- spring fever. We want to get out, wear less, mingle lots. Kids feel it, too. Talk to any teacher, you'll likely hear there's craziness in the classrooms. That energy surge is a function of longer days and more sunlight.
When seasons change, the retina -- naturally reacts to the first subtle signs in the amount of daylight. This reaction triggers hormonal changes, including an adjustment in melatonin, a hormone that affects sleep cycles and mood changes. Doctors say when there's more daylight, people have more energy, and sleep less.
Since this is the time to get out and about, mark this on your calendar. St. John’s Life Fair is set for this Saturday, March 31st at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center on the campus of MSSU. St. John’s Mobile Mammography unit will be there along with all the usual free lab screenings. Doors open at 8 am and be sure to stick around for our featured guest speaker, Richard Simmons. He takes the stage for an interactive talk at 1:15. For more info, call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
