With the recent news of Elizabeth Edwards’ cancer diagnosis, many women are being reminded to get their mammogram. Doctors admit, mammograms aren't perfect, but they're still the best tool we have for detecting breast cancer in its early -- and most curable and treatable -- stages. As you may recall, Edwards fought her first breast cancer diagnosis back in 2004. This time doctors say the disease has spread to one of her rib bones, but she says she’ll fight it again. As for those who have an excuse for everything, you can’t use the excuse that you can’t afford it. That’s because many health care centers, including St. John’s offer free or low-cost mammograms to women who can't afford them or do not have health insurance. Also, with our new Mobile Mammography unit, you can’t use the excuse that you couldn’t make it to the doctor’s office.
There are NO excuses. And since our Mobile Mammography unit will be at this year’s Life Fair performing mammograms for women, you need to mark it on your calendar now. St. John’s professionals will be there for you along the way and we will even file the visit with your insurance. So grab your sister, mother and best friend and head out to St. John’s Life Fair this Saturday, March 31st for your mammograms. And for more information about the event, just log onto our website at stj.com.
