St. John's Health MinuteWith the warmer weather, comes flowers in the garden. But did you ever think of gardening as a workout? Gardening provides all three types of exercise: endurance, flexibility, and strength. Doctors say you can make gardening into a structured exercise routine, alternating light activities with heavier ones. For example, rake for a while, then dig holes, then prune. And set a schedule, exercise 30 to 60 minutes, then quit, whether everything is planted or not. Just remember to stretch first! After all, you'd stretch before going to the gym, wouldn't you?

If you’re like me, you’re busy and find it hard to get even an extra hour in the day. Between taking the kids to school, work and errands, we are pushing the limit. However, if you find an hour or two a week to spare, consider this. Or maybe your teen is looking for a rewarding summer job and considering a job in health care. Then here is the perfect position. St. John’s is looking for volunteers of all ages to work all over the hospital, from the gift shop to the ER. For more information about becoming a volunteer, contact St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
