General Health : Asthma
It’s a common misconception that asthma is a childhood disease. In fact, about six to 10 percent of older adults have asthma, some newly diagnosed. Detecting asthma can be more difficult with age. Patients might blame their symptoms on other diseases, exposure to pollution or simply growing older. No matter how many candles are on your birthday cake, talk to your doctor if you have signs of asthma like wheezing, tightness in your chest, feeling short of breath and frequent coughing. And, while allergies aren’t the same as asthma, most people feel worse after being exposed to common allergens such as pet dander, mold, dust and pollen. But, you can minimize asthma flare-ups by avoiding asthma triggers. If your symptoms don’t’ improve, talk to your doctor about other ways to control asthma.
