We all know to watch what we eat, but here’s a twist… not all fatty foods are bad for you. There are different kinds of fats in our foods. For example, Monounsaturated fats found in canola, olive and peanut oils and polyunsaturated fats found in many nuts and seeds don’t raise your “bad” cholesterol levels but can raise your “good” cholesterol. So to keep healthy, it’s best to choose foods with these fats. However, on the flip side you should avoid saturated fat, trans fatty acids, and dietary cholesterol which raise your “bad” cholesterol levels, and can lead to heart disease.
Speaking of cholesterol, when was the last time you had yours checked? If you know it’s been too long, mark this on your calendar. St. John’s will be providing a cholesterol screening to the public this Thursday, May 17th from 8:30 -11:00 in the morning. Registration is required so call St. John`s Referral One to sign up for a time that works for you. Just call 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
