St. John's Health MinuteIt’s all about timing when it comes to taking melatonin supplements. Melatonin is a hormone made by the body, but it's also sold as a supplement. And many of you may take it to help you fall asleep at night. After all, melatonin helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle and other circadian rhythms. But studies of melatonin supplements have shown mixed results. And doctors now say that taking melatonin 30 minutes before bedtime improves sleep efficiency -- but only when your body isn’t making melatonin at the time. So if you take any melatonin supplement, talk to your doctor.

I know you hear it over and over. See your doctor regularly, but sometimes, it’s easier said than done. But I’m here to tell you that your heart is worth it. If you don’t get it checked, it may fail you when you need it the most. So St. John’s is here to help with our cardiovascular risk assessment that gives you five tests for your heart, for just $99 and it takes only 45 minutes. Our next session is set for this Friday, May 18th at Northpark Mall. For more info or to sign up, call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
