St. John's Health MinuteNow that the warmer weather is here, your kids are fighting to get to the pool and enjoy the sunshine. But not so fast, parents. You need to listen to this first. The sun's rays are risky for all of us, above all for infants, toddlers, children, and teens. Early exposure to too much sun and childhood sunburns can lead to skin cancer over time. By protecting your child's skin, you can help prevent sunburn -- and greatly cut skin cancer risk later on. So rule #1 - Stay inside or in the shade between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. when the sun’s rays are the strongest. Rule No. 2: All children are at risk. While pale kids are most likely to burn, darker-skinned children can also burn if they stay in the sun too long. Rule No. 3: Dress your kids in protective clothing. And finally, sunscreen, sunscreen, and more sunscreen.

Do you know a woman who could use a day of pampering? If so they need to attend the St. John's SportsCare Body, Mind and Soul Retreat this Saturday, May 5th from 8 to 4. It’ll be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. We will highlight women’s health issues, provide screenings, and share wonderful ways women can pamper themselves. Pre-registration is required so sign up now! Just call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
