St. John's Health MinuteIt should be no surprise doctors are urging you to remember to drink plenty of water when the temperature starts to rise. But what about other drinks to beat the heat? Doctors say water is the #1 choice. It can be bottled, filtered, or the water cooler variety. And if you get sick of it, try icing a pitcher of it with cut lemons and limes packed in it. Or freeze fruit in cubes and use those. Coming in at the #2 choice for summer is iced tea. Doctors say just be careful with the amount of sugar you use to sweeten the taste.

So what about the bad choices? Besides alcohol, any full-sugar soda. A soft drink can contain 16 teaspoons of sugar. And sugar makes you thirsty.
