St. John's Health MinuteIf you are trying to shed a few pounds and watch what you eat, you need to hear this. Beware of the counterfeit food, disguised as healthy and seemingly good for your diet, but secretly packing quite a calorie punch. From soup to nuts, here are the biggest culprits. At the top of the list – soups. We frequently think of soup as a filler, but certain soups can be packed full of calories and fat. # 2 – pork. Depending on the cut, the piece of pork in front of you can be equal to low-fat, low-calorie chicken, or as high in fat as a hot dog. And even if it's a lean cut of meat, adding sauce or cheese to a nice slice of pork can ruin its value to your waistline. And here’s a sneaky one - salad dressings are notorious for sneaking loads of extra calories and fat onto what might seem like a healthy meal. Some of the others making the list that can trick you …dried fruit, nuts, granola, breakfast bars, coffee (with all the fixings), juice and soda.

It’s that time of year again. St. John’s Mercy Foundation is planning its ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT, set for Friday June 8th at Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin. Morning and Afternoon tee times are available and lunch and carts are provided. We’re looking for you and your team, whether you play to win, or you just like chasing the ball around the course. So sign up today. Just call St. John’s Referral One for more information or go to stj.com.
