St. John's Health MinuteHere’s something we’ve all thought about. Can you really catch something from a dirty toilet seat? I’m mean honestly, some public restrooms should be considered a biohazard. However, doctors say germs do not typically enter the skin from a toilet seat. Using seat covers and paper is fine, but it really doesn't protect you from microorganisms. So here’s the problem. Children have a bad habit of holding on to the toilet seat, with their little fingers clutching underneath the rim. And if you watch a child wash their hands, you will see that they tend to miss the fingertips. And, those dirty fingertips will most likely be probing a nose or rubbing an eye within a few minutes. Which is how we contract germs. So be sure to wash your hands properly if you have to use a public restroom.

Women, listen up. If you ignored the reminders last month and still haven’t gone to see your doctor for your annual exam, at least do yourself a favor and mark this on your calendar. St. John’s will be offering a FREE bone density screening next Tuesday, November 14th from 9-11 at our Health Connection location inside Northpark Mall. Registration is required, so call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
