Stress : Power Naps
If you’re already starting to stress out over the holidays, you may be in for a long couple of months. As stress levels rise, the amount of sleep we get often falls. And, chronic lack of sleep can affect work performance, and even lead to increased health risks like high blood pressure, diabetes and weight gain. So, what’s the answer? Well, research continues to show the benefits of power naps, which are short bursts of daytime sleep. To get the most out of your power nap, the National Sleep Foundation makes some suggestions: Keep naps under 30 minutes for better short-term alertness and performance. Find a restful place to close your eyes and make sure it isn’t too hot or too cold. Avoid napping too early or late in the day when it can affect bedtime sleep patterns.
