Safety : Bicycle Helmets
Even though it’s fall, the weather’s still nice which means kids are still bike riding. Bike injuries are a leading cause of nonfatal accidental injury in children. Kids between the ages of 5 and 14 were injured most often. Overall most kids were treated and released from the emergency department right away. But those with head injuries were three times more likely to be admitted to the hospital as those with other injuries. Be sure your child wears a bike helmet. Research shows that helmets can lower risk for a head injury by 85 percent. Make sure helmets fit properly, which means they should sit on the top of the head in a level position, cover the forehead and not rock back and forth or from side to side.
