Crunched for time in the morning? Just grab a nutritious option on your way out. Studies show that eating breakfast improves your overall nutrition, ability to concentrate, and ability to maintain your weight. Aim to incorporate starch, fiber, and fat into your breakfast to maintain satiety throughout the morning. So to help you out, here are a few light breakfast items to go. Top whole wheat waffles with a tablespoon of peanut butter. Toss fruit and yogurt in the blender to whip up a quick smoothie. Mix together dried fruit, toasted seeds, and nuts for a protein-packed pick-me-up. Or prepare low-fat muffins ahead, freeze, and pop in the microwave before leaving. No matter what you choose, just make sure you have something rather than nothing.

We all know how important it is to exercise. You’ve probably heard it from everyone around you, including your doctors. Vigorous work-outs - when you're breathing hard and sweating - help your heart pump better, give you more energy and help you look and feel better. So why not set a summer goal to get out and exercise more? For more health tips and to find a physician or specialist, call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
