Antioxidants - 8/1/2008
You may have heard about the perks of blueberries, but do you know why? Well, they boast a number of disease fighting antioxidants, including vitamin C. Antioxidants help protect against free radicals that can cause cell damage, possibly leading to conditions such as cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s. So when’s the time to stock up? Fresh blueberry season runs from mid-April to late September. For the rest of the year, you can go with the frozen, canned and dried versions you’ll find in grocery stores.
Taking a healthy lunch to work is one of the simplest ways to trim your budget. You could save up to $10 a day or $200 a month. Beyond the cost savings, most meals packed at home are healthier than foods at restaurants. So what makes up a health lunch? First of all, make sure your lunch is balanced. Lunches that include some lean or low-fat protein along with carbohydrates will keep your body fueled for the afternoon. Last night's dinner, hard boiled eggs, vegetarian wraps, cereal -- anything you enjoy at home can be packed up and eaten for lunch.
