If you want to fight your belly bulge, here’s a simple tip – eat a diet rich in whole grains. And while you’re at it you’ll be lowering your risk of heart disease. A new study shows people who followed a weight loss program incorporating whole-grain breads, cereals, and other foods lost more body fat from the abdominal area than those who ate only refined grains like white bread and rice. In addition, those on the whole-grain diet experienced a 38% drop in C-reactive protein, an indicator of inflammation in the body linked to heart disease.

However, if you find an hour or two a week to spare, consider this. Or maybe your teen is looking for a rewarding summer job and considering a job in health care. Then here is the perfect position. St. John’s is looking for volunteers of all ages to work all over the hospital, from the gift shop to the ER. For more information about becoming a volunteer, contact St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
