Here’s a shocking fact. Every one of us is at risk for colorectal cancer. Almost 150,000 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer this year. The majority of people who develop colorectal cancer have no known risk factors. Although the exact cause of colorectal cancer is not known, there are some factors that increase a person's risk of developing the disease. These include: age, gender, polyps, personal history, family history, diet, lifestyle factors and diabetes. Having one or more of these risk factors does not guarantee that you will develop colorectal cancer. However, you should talk about these with your doctor to determine if there is something you can do.
If you want to learn more about your risk factors for colorectal cancer and how they can affect both men and women, plan on attending St. John’s Life Fair on March 29th at the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center on the campus of MSSU. The event is FREE so mark it on your calendar now. Plus, St. John’s will be offering free lab testing and informational booths. For more information about all of the activities at the Life Fair, call St. John’s Referral One at 625-2000 or log onto stj.com.
