If you have them, then you know the term, vericose veins. Those blue, enlarged veins found on some people’s legs may be unsightly, but they are usually not serious. Like hair color and height, vericose veins generally run in the family. Pregnancy and weight gain can also lead to the problem. But there are some things you can do to prevent them or relieve the pressure. First, change positions often when standing or sitting. Sleep with your feet on a pillow. Avoid high heels and clothes that are tight around the waist and hips. And here’s something you may not have heard. Try taking horse chestnut seed extract. Just remember to ask you doctor about the proper dosage.

And if you want to learn more about vericose veins, Dr. Jim Young will be speaking on the subject at this year’s St. John’s Life fair. It’s set for this Saturday from 8 to noon. And the talk is set for 11 am. So come out and get your free health screenings and talk to our doctors. It all takes place at the Leggett & Platt Athletic center on the campus of MSSU. And for more informations, just call St. John’s referral one at 625-2000.
