Attention parents! We all know about getting your kids their shots before starting school, but what about the 14-year-old checkup? Ever heard of it? Doctors say it’s a great opportunity for kids to ask questions about their health. It gives them a chance to talk about their moods, difficulties they may be having in getting along with friends, their parents, or teachers and of course, their health. The screening may involve checking urine, vision and hearing or a simple blood test to check cholesterol and signs of anemia. Most 14 year olds are up-to-date on their shots and do not require vaccines, but it’s still necessary for doctors to make sure everything else is progressing as it should.
