9/19/2008 - Trans Fats
You’ve probably heard the term, trans fats. We all know they’re bad for us, but how do you know if they’re in the foods you love? The FDA now requires food manufacturers to list trans fats on nutrition labels. But what about when you eat out? The key is whether the restaurant fries with partially hydrogenated oils. If they do, avoid it! There's no official recommended daily allowance for trans fats, but eat just half a doughnut, and you've hit the 2-gram daily limit. That's not hard to do when about 40% of products in your supermarket contain trans fats.
